Gov. OMalley announces $23M for Maryland state parks, some for energy efficiency upgrades
Notwithstanding the many challenges facing our natural
resources and our environment today, we have reason to be hopeful,
said Governor O’Malley, for at the end of the day, our problems are
man-made and so too are the solutions. The hands that have caused
the harm now have the power to heal.

Features from the Idea Bank

  • The NorthEast Regional Climate Center has developed an online tool to help homeowners assess whether to water their lawn on a daily basis. Check it out
  • Learn about food production and consumption on the Maryland Food System
  • Pure Oxygen Injection into Wastewater Outfalls
Talbot County is working to incorporate the injection of pure oxygen into submerged wastewater outfalls. The energy of the wastewater flows can transport a significant mass of oxygen into streams and rivers. Using this technique in warm weather months accelerates the oxidation of organically enriched sediments and greatly improve dissolved oxygen concentrations in waterways over large areas, creating wildlife habitats.
  • Use the arts to promote clean water. The town of Easton had Clean Water Week last month with music, film, art, and the latest on ways to make our local waterways clean and healthy again.
